Allegri calls for 'aggressive and competitive' Milan against Ajax
The Rossoneri boss feels his side will need "to go up a level" in their crucial Champions League clash at San Siro while defender Mattia De Sciglio insists "the season starts now"

Massimiliano Allegri has called on his AC Milan side to be "aggressive and competitive" in their pivotal Champions League clash with Ajax on Wednesday.

The Rossoneri will progress to the knockout phase if they avoid defeat against Franck de Boer's side at San Siro, but the 46-year-old insists that his charges must go for the win.

"We are making good progress in term of results. Tomorrow's game is crucial and we will approach it in a determined manner," he told a press conference.

"A draw will be enough for us but our aim is to win. The stakes are very high, so we'll need to concentrate – we can't afford to play for a draw. They are a young side in good form, but we're the home team. We have to be aggressive and competitive to win the match.

"So far we've performed well in the Champions League but we'll need to go up a level tomorrow. The team will have to be patient in possession and the fans have an important role to play."

Defender Mattia De Sciglio, meanwhile, says his team-mates must not risk their chances by playing for a draw and claims "the season starts now" for him after he returned to action against Livorno.

"We are focused and we want to get through. Certainly we don't want to play for a draw, we could risk the qualification," he said. "They are a good team and they play well. We have to be careful.

"I'm working to get my knee back at the best condition. It is improving day by day. The minutes I played in Livorno were positive and important for me. We have to be aware that tomorrow is a crucial match. We will give 100 per cent. The season starts now for me."
