PSG proving that money scores goals - Voller
The German says that the Ligue 1 leaders' status as one of the top five clubs in Europe underlines that financial muscle is of the utmost importance in the modern game

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller says that Tuesday's Champions League opponents, Paris Saint-Germain, are currently proving that "money scores goals".

The French outfit have established themselves as one of Europe's elite since being taken over by the Qatari Investment Authority in 2011 by splashing the cash to lure some of the game's biggest names to the Parc des Princes.

Voller says he has no issue with the way in which the Ligue 1 champions have taken a place among Europe's elite, he does feel that they have underlined that financial might is of the utmost importance in the modern game.

"I do not have a problem with that," the former Germany international told reporters on the eve of the first leg of Leverkusen's last-16 tie with PSG.

"Whether the money comes from one company or from three like at Bayern [Munich], it does not matter at all.

"The main thing is, wages are paid in time and, from that point of view, Paris are making a serious impression on the game.

"In the end, money does score goals. You can see it at PSG and at Bayern. PSG are one of Europe's five best teams and they're among the favourites to win the Champions League, too."

However, Leverkusen boss Sami Hyypia still believes that his troops can upset their cash-rich opponents - despite the fact that the hosts are coming into the game on the back of a 2-1 Bundesliga loss to Schalke.

"If we play like we did against Schalke, we will have a chance against Paris," the Finn insisted. "Money does not always win.

"Of course we have to be effective again, or else we will be left empty-handed. We have to play to our maximum and give 100 per cent in every department."
