The Dutchman has reiterated that Manchester United
could move for a forward in the summer window but has suggested it will
not
be the PSG forward or the Real Madrid starThe Red Devils have offloaded both Radamel Falcao, who joined Chelsea after the conclusion of his loan spell at Old Trafford, and Robin van Persie as Van Gaal makes adjustments to his squad ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.
LVG'S SURPRISE? Could one of these strikers soon be arriving at Old Trafford?
That leaves Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson as the club's recognised strikers and while Van Gaal has again hinted that a "surprise" addition could follow, he has insisted that it will not be a name that has cropped up in the media.
He told reporters ahead of United's pre-season clash against San Jose Earthquakes: "He [the 'surprise striker] is in the process.
"It's not the striker the media has written about. You have to wait and see. The transfer period is open until September 1 so we have to wait."
Van Gaal's comments would appear to rule out Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani, who has been linked with a move to United and potentially as part of a deal to take Angel Di Maria to the French capital.
Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has also been touted as a potential signing and Goal understands United have expressed an interest in signing the France international, should he become available.
