Ahead of officially joining Atletico Madrid, the Fiorentina defender has lauded his soon-to-be boss and expressed his excitement at the deal nearly being done

Stefan Savic has labelled Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone the best coach in football ahead of his expected transfer from Fiorentina.

The defender arrived in Madrid on Monday to finalise a €10 million deal which will see him end his three-year stint with Fiorentina, while central midfielder Mario Suarez travels in the opposite direction.

Simeone has won La Liga, the Europa League and the Copa del Rey – in addition to reaching the Champions League final – since arriving at the Vicente Calderon at the tail end of 2011, and Savic holds him in the highest esteem.

"I'm very happy, Atletico's a big club," he told reporters at the Barajas airport in Madrid. "I will now pass the medical then I'll be able to join the team.
