though it has been confirmed he failed a drug test
Uefa has dismissed Fenerbahce's appeal against Shakhtar Donetsk fielding Fred during their Champions League qualifier.
The Super Lig outfit registered a complaint with the European governing body after it was announced that the Brazil international had failed a doping test during the 2015 Copa America in Chile.
Fred featured in the goalless first-leg clash between Fenerbahce and Shakhtar in Istanbul on July 28, three days before the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed he had tested positive for banned substance hydrochlorothiazide.
Uefa advised Shakhtar not to play the midfielder, but they opted against doing so, given no official documentation had been presented.
However, the European governing body has nonetheless decided against taking any action, meaning the 0-0 scoreline from the first leg still stands.
Shakhtar host the return clash on August 5 but Fred is not expected to feature because of the failed doping test.
