Marseille win can give us momentum - Lewandowski

Marseille win can give us momentum - Lewandowski
The Polish forward is hopeful of a run in the Bundesliga after their morale-boosting victory in France in midweek, which secured Champions League qualification

Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski says he is hopeful that his side's midweek victory over Olympique de Marseille can help them improve their Bundesliga form.

Jurgen Klopp's side have fallen 10 points behind Bayern Munich in the title race thanks to recent losses to Wolfsburg, Bayer Leverkusen and the Bavarian outfit.

However, they reached the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday thanks to a dramatic win at the Velodrome and Lewandowski is now targeting another victory against Hoffenheim on Saturday.

"We absolutely need these three points," he told Bild.

"I hope that the Marseille win gives us the momentum we need for the league."

Meanwhile, club legend Lars Ricken has heaped praise on young defender Marian Sarr, who made his club debut in France, but warned that he must be left alone to develop.

"His professional debut was great. Fast and error-free," he said. "For us fans and the public that's perhaps surprising. Marian is very level-headed, down to earth.

"A rough diamond needs to be sanded carefully. Then he would be guaranteed to prevail in the long term. Marian is with us to develop in peace."

Dortmund's trip to the Rhein Neckar Arena is scheduled to kick off at 15:30CET on Saturday.
