Christian Obodo joins Olhanense
The former Super Eagles midfielder has secured a five-month loan switch with the Primeira Liga club till the end of the season with an option to stay for an additional year

Portuguese club Olhanense has confirmed the capture of former Nigeria international Christian Obodo for rest of the season.

The 29-year-old completed a loan move after enduring a frustrating stay in Belarus with Dinamo Minsk, where he only managed one appearance.

The central midfielder told the club website he believes he could rediscover himself with the atmosphere at Olhanense.

“I knew the Algarve because I had been here earlier in stages along with the selection of Nigeria, who usually train in southern Portugal. Here the weather is fantastic and the food and the environment in terms of nature or the social aspect and that is important for a professional soccer,” Obodo told the club’s website.

According to the club website, the playing experience at top level for the former Plateau United star in a friendly game against Lokomotiv Moscow propelled the move after undergoing a week long trail as they seek to strengthen their squad.

The 21-cap former Nigeria international was kidnapped two years ago at his native town, Warri, Delta State on his way to church but was released a day after.

Obodo last featured for the Super Eagles in 2008, in a 2010 World Cup qualifying match against Sierra Leone where he scored a goal.
