Manchester City are reportedly set to rival neighbours Manchester United and London rivlas Chelsea for the signature of the highly-rated Southampton left-back Luke Shaw.

The Mirror believes that Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is set to hunt for a left-back in the coming summer, with Luke Shaw emerging as the ideal candidate.

Despite being just 18, the Southampton youngster already has the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea at his heels, with a fee upwards of £22 million rumoured to be the price to test the south coast club's resolve.

The technically gifted Shaw has impressed for his club since making his debut in 2012 and has moved up the ranks on the international scene too, featuring first for the England Under-16's before moving up to the Under-21's.

Shaw was heavily linked with a move to struggling Manchester United in the recent January window, with United said to be seeing him as the perfect replacement for the ageing Patrice Evra, who could well be making his exit in the coming summer.

However, the Southampton youngster is reportedly a Chelsea fan and it is understood he is waiting for Jose Mourinho to come calling this summer. Chelsea are understandably looking for a replacement for the ageing Ashley Cole too, with the veteran left-back linked with a Stamford Bridge exit in the summer as he has found it hard to break into the first team this season.

Now, Manchester United and Chelsea will face intense competition for Shaw from the cash-rich Manchester City, who have shown in recent years that they are not afraid of splashing the cash on anyone they deem as a necessary addition to their squad.

A projected fee of £22 million will do little to deter either side, with Chelsea having the firm backing of Roman Abramovic, David Moyes said to have been given a £200 million transfer budget and City, as we all know, have the unlimited funds made avaliable by their cash-rich owners.
