Arturo Vidal not available to Manchester United

Vidal is not on the market according to Allegri.
Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that Arturo Vidal is not available on the transfer market.

The Chile international seemed certain to sign for Manchester United, but it appears Louis van Gaal has taken too long to agree a deal. Allegri is now fully focused on getting his team in order ahead of Juventus's Serie A title defence.

The Italian manager, who replaced Antonio Conte this summer, says it is only natural for Vidal to be linked with big teams but believes Juventus are big enough to keep hold of such stars.

'Not on the market'
"I don't think he's on the market, if that's what you want to know," Allegri told Tuttosport. "Great players are always talked about.

"Big clubs are only looking for great players, but Juventus are a great club. Obviously Bayern or United or Real Madrid can think about him as much as they want."
No United move

It is a further blow for Van Gaal and Manchester United, who appeared close to taking the 27-year-old to Old Trafford in a club record deal. A variety of bids were reported to have been launched towards Turin but it seems an agreement has not been found.

Reports went as far as to say that Vidal had even completed a medical with Manchester United. Concerned by long-standing knee problems, Van Gaal insisted on getting the medical done before committing funds.

Record deal

If Vidal had signed for Manchester United, it would have surely broken their current transfer record, which is currently held by Juan Mata after he signed for Chelsea in January for £37.1 million.
Juventus were reportedly demanding €50 million (£40 million) for the tough tackling midfielder and it seemed Van Gaal was willing to pay it. But with the Serie A season just two weeks away, Allegri does not want to see one of his main players depart.

Alternative deals
Following Manchester United's opening day defeat to Swansea City, attention has turned towards the lack of signings at Old Trafford. Only Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera have been brought in, disappointing fans who were expecting an influx of world-class stars.

A Deal for Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo looks close while Mehdi Benatia looks to be a main target. In terms of an alternative to Vidal, scouts from Manchester United were believed to be in attendance at Sporting Lisbon's game against Academica to watch William Carvalho.
