The Nou Camp outfit have been rocked by news that Fifa have rejected their appeal to have their transfer embargo lifted. They will now be banned from registering new players for the next two windows – January and summer 2015.
Appeal
Officials from the club have already stated their intention to take the case all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in what represents their last chance to have their punishment rescinded. However, they are also preparing for the worst.

If their appeal fails, they will not be able to sign any new players, thus ruling them out of the race for Reus, who is set to leave the Bundesliga outfit next summer when a £20 million release clause becomes active. Barcelona are now trying their best to seal a deal in the final 12 days of the current window.
Urgent transfer dash
Barcelona have been linked with the Germany international all summer, but have seen their attempts to sign him knocked back by Jurgen Klopp. With Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal all believed to be interested, a big tussle for his signature seemed inevitable next summer.
But Barcelona want to make sure they don't miss out to the Premier League and are willing to pay a premium to try and get Reus to the Nou Camp now.
Possible loan
The La Liga outfit are considering a package that would see Reus remain at Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the season before joining up with his teammates next summer. As he would already be a registered Barcelona player, it would not break the rules of the transfer embargo.
It will be a complicated two weeks for Luis Enrique, who must now decide where his squad will need reinforcing before their ban is lifted in January 2016. Reus is seen as the key target for the moment.
Premier League blow
The news will be a significant blow to the aforementioned Premier League clubs. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was rumoured to be the frontrunner to land the player next season while Brendan Rodger and Louis van Gaal remained keen.
It was revealed that Manchester United failed in an attempt to sign Reus earlier this summer but Van Gaal may have better luck next term if he can guide the Old Trafford club back into the Champions League.
Liverpool were reported to have dropped their interest, but the chance to sign a world-class star for just £20 million next season would surely entice Rodgers to renew it.
